TC YOUNG FOUNDATION

"One child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the World" Malala

"Poverty is not a disgrace; disgrace lies in poverty without ambition."  T.C. Young - "A Chinese View of Life"

The T.C. Young Foundation (杨天全基金会) is a non-profit organization that supports education in Jiang Su, China through student scholarships and teacher awards. It started as the dream of a man born poor in Nancheng in the Jiang Su province. Looking back at his life, TC Young realized that education opened many doors for him.

In partnership with the Nancheng Middle School, the Foundation has awarded annually merit-based scholarships to high-performing students and Golden Apple Awards to exceptional teachers. Since 1995, the Foundation has paid out over $100,000 USD in awards. In line with the current standard of living in China, the Foundation scholarships range from $150 USD to over $200 USD.

In 2020 the Foundation achieved a significant milestone. The Foundation has awarded continuously for 25 years its student merit scholarships and its Golden Apples awards for teachers at Nancheng Middle School. They were given out on October 28th in a public ceremony at the School. The Foundation also awarded two college scholarships to former graduates of the School. It continued to support Xu Ming Xuan, a second year student at Nanjing University in Chinese Medicine due to her outstanding results as a freshman.  Jiale Kong, a first year student at Nanjing Technical University,  earned the second college scholarship because of his high score on the entrance exam. Finally the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago selected Ran Cheng as its first T.C. Young scholar.
